Company

Our mission is to utilize our expertise in acoustic wave technology and product development to produce creative solutions that address the specific needs of our customers.

The convergence of the internet, wireless communications, and sensor technologies presents the opportunity for development of new tools capable of providing profound benefits for industry and for society as a whole. Wireless sensor systems can be used in applications ranging from homeland defense, national security, and aerospace, to industrial process control and civil engineering. Structural and system health monitoring can utilize sensor data to predict component lifetime and to detect incipient failures, allowing enhanced preventive maintenance. Biosensor systems hold promise for improving the quality and reducing the cost of human and veterinary medical care. SAW sensors are based on adaptation of a mature, low-cost device technology manufactured by the billions for use in cell phone and consumer electronics applications, and are an enabling technology for cost effective distributed wireless sensing systems.

ASR&D is uniquely capable of developing innovative acoustic wave based sensor system solutions to meet the needs of customers in diverse market segments.

ASR&D Team

The ASR&D team includes a small group of creative and specialized engineers and scientists with extensive industrial experience with the design and production of SAW devices, including chemical and physical sensors of various kinds. Additional support personnel provide financial, administrative, and specialized scientific support on a consultancy or part-time employee basis.

Facilities

ASR&D occupies a leased facility located in Arnold Maryland, approximately 30 minutes south of Baltimore. This facility consists of 2200 square feet, including an office area, a class 10,000 clean room for device assembly, wafer probe testing, chemical fume hood work, gas sensor concentration testing, semiconductor furnace procedures, and biological procedures, and general purpose laboratory and manufacturing space. ASR&D has been in continuous operation for 5 years, and currently has six employees and several regular consultants that contribute on an as-needed basis. ASR&D has an in-house capability to design and manufacture SAW sensors in low volumes, with all of the equipment necessary for low volume assembly and test of SAW devices, and for low to moderate volume electronics production. ASR&D's ability to manufacture SAW sensors and interrogation systems in-house is unique among small U.S. based firms, and provides the company with the flexibility necessary to customize sensors and systems for specific customers and applications.
